WHAT IS AN ORIGINAL STROOPWAFEL?
A real, traditional stroopwafel is a special treat: warm caramel syrup, melting in-between two crispy-baked round layers of sweet cookie dough. Since 1978 we are baking them fresh-per-costumer at the Albert Cuyp Market in Amsterdam. Always in accordance with traditional Dutch recipe.
Today, the authentic preparation of the stroopwafel is unique in Holland. The rich flavours of the real stroopwafels explain why. For our family recipe we only use the best ingredients, so that we can guarantee the amazing quality of our stroopwafel.
Since stroopwafels are so generally well-loved, they are now available in most Dutch supermarkets and gas stations. However… Most of these common, factory-made stroopwafels don’t come close to the original Dutch stroopwafel…
In addition, lot’s of starting sellers at markets and fairs use ready-made mixes for their wafels. On the outside it looks like a stroopwafel, but we know you would taste the difference!
According to the traditional recipe,
a dutch stroopwafel should include high quality dough, special spices and real butter. As a result, the wafel shouldn’t taste too sweet, but should taste rich and spicy. Doing so, it’s the harmony between the sweetness and spices that gives them their unique deliciousness.
As with all dishes, it’s all about being pure and authentic. For our homemade stroopwafels we only use the best and original ingredients while never making concessions on quality. We continue to guarantee the real, traditional stroopwafel!
